Just pointing out the thinking time was probably pretty short.

Agree 100%

> But anyway, if you actually read the history of the guy, its true his unit was never actually convicted of engaging in any war crimes. So basically as far as anyone is concerned they were just another division of the German military, whose job was primarily engaging with the soviets on the Eastern flank.

Eh not really. His unit took part in for instance this massacre

That's a lie.
The Nuremberg Tribunal declared the SS a criminal organization. The verdict of the tribunal applies to the bandits of the SS Galichyna division in full.

As I read, and as kyanite111 also confirmed in #10, they were not actually convicted by tribunal. You probably messed SS as a whole and SS Galychina.

But anyway I hope that another Nuremberg (or other) tribunal in future will also convict modern russian nazis and nazi russia as a state for their crimes in Ukraine.

Check out this article:
nationalpost.com/opinion/first-reading-canada-has-long-been-slammed-as-a-haven-for-ex-nazis-like-yaroslav-hunka

"While many ex-Nazis had become Canadians by assuming false identities or lying about their war records, veterans of the Galicia Division were let into the country en-masse in 1950 via a special cabinet-level dispensation".

It was not the court, but the Canadian authorities who decided that the veterans of the Galicia division did not commit crimes.

That is, the SS division Galichyna was not part of the SS? Oh my god...

Haven't you watched the video?
This old man was presented as a World War II veteran who fought against Russia for the independence of Ukraine.
One English newspaper put it this way:
You don’t have to be a doctor of historical sciences to understand that a veteran who fought against the Russians in the 40s was associated with the Nazis.

Okay, I can admit that members of the Canadian Parliament are not good at history, but Zelensky! This one knew exactly who he was applauding.

The cons of Canada are tearing their shirts on this after being caught not vetting who they're hanging out with.
