THE OPPOSITION

It must be understood that the opposition is only a special case of corresponding squares. Corresponding squares are squares on which both sides find themselves in zugzwang. What we call the opposition is when the kings stand opposite each other with only one square between them. When there are three or five squares between them we speak about the distant opposition.

IMPORTANCE

It is difficult to navigate around this position. Contrary to other chess positions, one small mistake in the opposition could most likely result in a lost game. You can improve your skills here. There are also countless other resources on the internet you could refer to in order to master the opposition.

CONCLUSION

Mastering the opposition is essential to master chess. I have given extensive emphasis to the position and seen a sharp rise in the number of games I win. In conclusion, I believe that the opposition is one of the most important chess position and also one one the most difficult to master, and that makes it one of the most interesting and unique positions that I have come across.
