Should I feel bad for not accepting take backs?

"If you have a mouseslip, nine times out of ten it's your own fault because of piece-dragging rather than square clicking. "

Square clicking? I thought the only way to move was a drag operation.
Turn on move confirmation. Mouse-slips go away, permanently. Don't be sloppy or lazy and expect your opponent to clean up your mistakes. And don't expect to move quickly with no safety net and expect your opponent to clean up your mistakes. You are 100% responsible for making the correct move in a chess game. You don't have move confirmation on and make a mouseslip, own it--don't ask for a take-back. "A man who would take a chess move back would pick a pocket."
Take-backs are a nice idea and deactivating it would be a bit unfortunately.

But I agree that giving take-backs is rarely a nice experience. I did it several times after more or less big blunders by my opponents and when I also requested a take-back in the same game (!) they always totally ignored it.

My opinion: If you ask for take-backs you should be ready to accept take-backs at any time because it changes the morale of the whole game. Its more like a training game then or some kind of friendly match and not a serious battle.

If people dont understand this easy fact then take-backs are just pointless...

A take back is unsporting and unethical. You should never accept them or offer them.
If you blunder (which I do sometimes) just resign and move on. If you resign nobody will think badly. (If they do they have other problems)
you have a good point Stepenson - two in fact
@Stephenson:

A take back itself is in my opinion neither unsporting nor unethical. Its the behaviour of the people who use the possibility of take-baks.

If you ask for a take-back you give me the clear signal that you want to turn the game into a friendly game/training game. There could be some reasons to accept this. But its clear that in a regular rated game thats rarely the case - I dont accept take-backs there, I only accept them when an obvious mouse-slip occured.

The problem with take-backs is that some people try to misuse them by asking for it without any obvious reason. In this case its indeed unsporting and unethical to request a take-back, especially if you are not willing to grant a respond.

sorry i don't agree with it being unsporting or unethical - but with Nadestar's point about it becoming a friendly game as apart from rated. An important distinction i think
