Face to face chess tournaments (adult) in NYC area

Anyone know of face-to-face chess tournaments in the NYC area for players without a USCF rating? If a rating is required, is it possible to obtain a USCF rating through lichess? Thanks...
I have no idea how much it is these days, but back in the day you could show up at the chess club, pay like $30 for a one year membership to the USCF and get a "free" subscription to the USCF's magazine. The tournament director, and every club has one, takes care of the paperwork. You'll want to check the events schedule and find the right time/event to show up at. If you want to meet the club members, some clubs have tournaments over 4-6 weeks with a game every X night. If you dont care about meeting club members, a big club like the Marshall has weekend tournaments too, which often draw in lots of non members. My two cents is do both -- having stronger players willing to go over the game afterwards is a huge help in getting stronger. A lot less of that when playing 3-4 games on a weekend day than one longer game on a weeknight.
