I don't think the actual delay ("stabletime") is a big problem, at least not with time controls of 15+10 and longer. You can even change the stabletime parameter in the driver settings if you want to.
You lose time because you have to do your opponent's moves as well - you wait for the beep indicating that your opponent has moved, look at the clock or the computer screen which move it was and do the actual move on the board. No big deal, but still a bit awkward. And of cause you might lose a lot of time if you happen to miss a beep... :-)
Pieces moving automagically would be best. Actually, some chesscomputers did that back in the days already (PhantomForce).
#22: very cool. It looks like it's been taken right out of an old science-fiction movie (many videos on youtube).
Today I bought some old and broken chesscomputers on ebay to check which can be converted into an USB board easily (and resell the rest). My dream would be a Mephisto Muenchen board with PhantomForce-like auto movement for opponents on the internet. (But probably blitz would still be quite a struggle).
I hope you didn't give up on dgt. I have started to see some older boards at low cost.
I am looking to build a utility that will allow using the DGT chess board with lichess. If anybody wants to help test and provide feedback then let me know.
I can help with testing and feedback. I own a DGT bord quite old but still perfectly usable. It's a "serial" board
I would like to get a used dgt board but never see them for sale. If someone sees one or has one for sale pm me the info would really like one for the club. (Sorry this was off topic).
