Any King move leads to mate, so you have to block with queen.

Rxf4+ was check, white can't just play Rd8+ Rf8 Rxf8# without first dealing with it.

Yes, after Kxf4, what happens?

You can just play that move Kxf4 and see what stockfish will recommend. Eg. g5+

Ok, it seems it's ok. In the end black is at least pawn up, so it's good enough!

At least a pawn? -5.2 after Kxf4 and it only gets worse for White
