Is the exchange French so bad?

also I just realized I'm a nitwit and kept referring to the d pawn as the e pawn. There will be no e pawns in this game after move 2. Please read "d pawn" everytime I foolishly mention the e pawn Thanks. hahah
Eatchipss: Here's game where I get sort of smashed as black in the French exchange, and a good example of how white can try to create an imbalance.

Computer says that white is doing well after sac'ing the bishop. Though---as I suspected during the game it isn't enough for a direct win. Nonetheless white got me confused and I tangled up my pieces.

The point for me in this game is that by playing h6 I am stopping a knight and rook double attack on e6. However, that evidently leaves black open to a long term sacrifice plan. I don't know if I would still avoid playing h6 in the future, because black still might be able to equalize after the sacrifice, but it certainly makes it harder for a player at my (low) tactical ability.
yeh timmothly ive been undone with that h6 sac alot of times. As a result of that i refuse to play h6 in the exchange, unless its really necessary. intresting game none the less thanks for sharing (ps the mate in puzzle this time was actually challenging)
