Feature suggestion: chess matches

Specially when playing at faster time controls often you meet opponents refusing a rematch, also there are others that just keep asking rematch after rematch.

I can understand this behaviour in online chess. But for me always has been basic chess etiquette to give one rematch so both players get to play white pieces once.

I'm sure I am not the only one, I think it could be interesting to have an option to look opponent for 2 games and also extend it to engage players in a mini match of a concrete number of games.
You didn't say what you think should happen if someone doesn't play all the agreed upon games.
There're too many lichess users simply regarding ratings as what they persue (Win once then run). Your suggestion can be really hard to execute.

I was thinking mainly about 2 games match, after one game ends next one can start automatically with colours reversed.

For mini matches of more than 2 games if someone leaves loses the current game and match stops.

Of course this is not for everybody but for those interested in play at least 2 games with same opponent. It has some good points like rematch guaranteed, chance to replay critical variations or adapt repertoire as games go by.
Stand alone matches are not possible with the current rating system.
But what would be possible is a tournament where the match-winner moves on to the next stage.

Then if someone does not play until a match winner is determined, he loses the match and is out of the tournament.

example:
16 player tournament, each match is 6 games + armageddon
players are paired
match-winners move on to round of eight players

you get it.

It's not a bad idea. In order to implement this they'd have to add another button on the main page like "Create a game. Create a match. Play with a friend. Play with the computer". Lichess' philosophy is a clean and simple user interface so to add another button like that there would have to be enough people that would use this feature. That I'm not sure of.

I don't really get why stand alone matches are not possible, but I think may be worth to have try at 2 game matches. If people like then can be extended to matches.

Then you need to answer Buttercup22’s question.

Yeah, I agree idea needs some work and I love Lichess' interface cleanliness. Definitely shouldn't be a new button when creating match nor new icon on lobby.

I focus with initial idea of mini matches of 2 games for now (so both players get white pieces once).

One thing might work is
1. Having a user setting something like "Allow matches" (defaulted to No) so those not interested are not affected.
2. When 2 players with flag enabled start a game new button is available only on first move (just like berserk in arena tournaments)
3. One player hits the button "proposing" and if the other clicks "accepting proposal" after game ends a new one starts with colours reversed. Both players should press the button on first move to engage to second game.
