Hey everyone!
For most of the past week, the RK community of The House Discord has been working on an exciting new off-season tournament. A conversation between vlad, Rex and vic derailed into a brainstorming session about team events, and a few days later here we are...
I'm glad to announce the brand new 2022 Racing Kings Olympiad!
The concept?
- Teams of 3 battle it out in a format inspired by the annual FIDE Olympiad events
- Swiss stage of at least 5 Rounds
- Top 4 teams qualify for a single elimination knockout bracket to decide the winner
- Designated team members playing on Boards 1, 2 and 3 are paired against each other
- Match format is 6 games of rated 3+2 RK, one round is played every week
- Players are responsible for contacting their opponents and scheduling their own matches
READ THE FULL TOURNAMENT RULES HERE: sites.google.com/view/racingkingswc/rk-olympiad-2022/rules
Everyone is welcome to join! There are a few entry requirements (see rules linked above), but they've been set as low as possible. So far many top players have shown interest or have already registered, including the top 6 finishers from this year's Racing Kings WC. You can check out the current list of teams and registrations here: sites.google.com/view/racingkingswc/rk-olympiad-2022/registrations
Does this sound like an event you'd like to play in? Registrations will only be open until **October 16** at 16:00 UTC, so don't hesitate to sign up before then. You can either ask your friends and register with your own team immediately, or you can sign up alone and be drafted into a team if you haven't found one on your own by the end of the registration period.
Until then, this forum thread will serve as the place to post your teams and registrations, and to ask any questions you may have about the Olympiad.
--------------------
Although this event is not officially organised by Lichess Racing Kings, our team leaders have all been involved in its creation. Over the past few years it's often been difficult to organise tournaments within the RK community, so a well-regulated Olympiad featuring so many top players is worthy of being hosted here.
We hope that in the future, more team events can be organised outside of the RKWC season. Until then, let's make this one a success! :-)
