Ranks Need To Be Reset Once A Year

We can check this easily with the help of the information given in the tooltips of the rating distribution graph.
It clearly says "518,437 Rapid players this week".
Hovering over the yellowish cumulative line, I read "1450 Cumulative: 52%" and "1475 Cumulative: 55%"
Hovering over the blue players line, I read "1450 Players: 12447"
So there are 12447 players in the rating range between 1450 and 1475, and these make up 3% (55% - 52%)
3% percent fits quite well to the total pool of 518,000 rapid players *this week*, so we can be assured that the whole graph is calculated only from players who have been active this week.
if you work so hard to be a GM, and a few days later, that's all gone.
New Year, New Me
Why don't we reset everyones bank accounts as well?

"Oh, you earned a lot of money, little Jimmy? That's too bad, it's January 1st."

Jimmy - "Sir, that's not fair!"
Banker- "Sorry Jimmy, someone on the forums suggested it."

If you're truly a GM you'll get your rating back. You can keep your GM title.
Rating points are a reward for winning, and you would have to be insane to think you can take that away from someone.

They can keep their title. They earned it.

They did, but it has to be reset once a year to keep everything balanced. Clear out the inactives, and keep people playing the game.
